What Types of Dents Can Be Removed?

Generally about 85-90% of minor dents and dings can be completely removed through PDR.  In most cases, PDR will return your vehicle to its original condition.  Even in cases where PDR cannot completely remove a dent or ding, it can generally repair it to the point of being unnoticeable to the untrained eye.

Whether or not PDR can be used depends on a number of factors:

  • the depth of the dent or ding
  • the location of the dent or ding
  • the age and condition of the vehicle
  • whether the body paint has been cracked or broken
  • how stretched or twisted the metal has become

Can PDR repair hail damage?

Yes!

PDR is commonly used to repair vehicles damaged by hail storms (and acorns).  In fact, PDR is so effective for hail damage that some insurance companies use "hail teams" that "chase hail." These teams travel to an area that was hit by hail to repair vehicles damaged by hail using PDR techniques.

Will my car insurance pay for PDR?

Yes!  PDR is generally covered by insurance. And, we will work with you insurance company to provide any information needed to get your claim covered and processed.

However, in most cases, the cost of having small dents and dings removed through PDR is so inexpensive (less expensive than even your deductible), so most people prefer to pay for PDR out-of-pocket.

What are the Benefits of PDR?

PDR provides a number of advantages over traditional auto dent repair:

QUALITY

The goal of PDR is to RETURN to your vehicle condition it was BEFORE the accident - as opposed to REPAIRING or REPLACING parts affected by the accident.  PDR doesn't use paint or body filler, which eliminates the risk of paint overspray, incorrect color matching, etc.

COST
Dent removal through PDR could cost you AS LITTLE AS $75.00. Generally, most dents can be completely removed for under $150.  A typical estimate for a minor dent from a body shop usually ranges between $350 - $500 or higher.

SPEEDMinor dents can be removed through PDR in anywhere from FIVE MINUTES to an hour.  A body shop might typically require 3 - 5 days (or longer!) to repair the same dent!

CONVENIENCEAt The Dent Mender, we bring our tools and services to you.  We can repair your vehicle at your HOME OR OFFICE, or, if you'd prefer, we also work at a variety of car dealerships and body shops in the area and can meet you at a mutually convenient location.  We offer same- or  next- day service in most cases.  You don't have to drop off your vehicle at a retail location and go without it (or pay for a rental!)

VALUEBecause PDR doesn't remove or repaint the damaged area, your vehicle retains its value better than a vehicle which has been repainted.

SAFEPDR uses special tools to massage the metal of your vehicle back to its original condition - no paints, sprays, toxic or environmentally harmful materials are used.

Where does Paintless Dent Repair come from?

Paintless Dent Repair was developed by Mercedes and BMW in the 1940's to repair small dents created during the manufacturing process. Repairmen known as "dingmen" would use their knowledge of metal and specialized tools to access and massage out minor dings and dents working from the inside of the damaged panel.

Although PDR disappeared in the factories with manufacturing improvements, it has made a strong comeback due to dealership demand. During the mid 1980's entrepreneurs embraced this PDR system and reintroduced the method to the commercial market place.

Today, PDR is frequently utilized by dealerships and bodyshops throughout the country as a high quality, cost- and time-effective alternative to traditional body work.
